PREAMBLE/ PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme of Kampala International University seeks to offer students with skills and competencies which are needed in the managerial careers both in the private and public sector within the global economy. The programme accommodates students with prior training in business and also those with competencies from other professionals such medicine, law, engineering, teacher education to mention. The programme is designed to promote the KIU’S dream of raising a generation of problem solvers for the African Continent and beyond.   

The programme is discerned by its thoroughness as well as the range of specialties under it which include; supplies and procurement, human resource, marketing , accounting, banking, information technology, as well general management. These have been benchmarked with outstanding universities world over.

PROGRAMME RATIONALE/JUSTIFICATION:

The College of Economics and Management of Kampala International University is consciously aware of the ever changing demands of the contemporary world and is therefore offering academic programmes that meet such demands. The Master of Business Administration programme offers a unique opportunity for students to develop an appreciation of the causes and significances of current developments in the management arena which call for more multifaceted decision making capacities.

The programme caters for those that have undergone prior training in finance, accounting, banking, procurement and logistics, public administration, law, medicine, economics, mathematics, statistics and many other spheres in academia. It provides new skills, analytical tools and perspectives, which provide a sound basis for management.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

The Master of Business Administration programme seeks to:

  • Enrich students with a professional and problem solving outlook in the practice of management.
  •  Equip students with knowledge of the changing local and international business environment and therefore be able to take strategic, comprehensive and innovative approaches in making business decisions that create value in the challenging environment.
  •  Provide students with a comprehensive foundation in the fundamentals of business as well as analytical tools for intellectual decision making.

PROGRAMME LEARNING OUTCOMES

After successfully completing the programme the student shall be able to:

  • Apply decision-making techniques, both quantitative and qualitative analysis, to management concerns. 
  •  Apply the concepts of ethical and sustainable leadership to deal with change and optimize organizational performance.
  • Exhibit effective written forms of communication and oral business presentations
  • Integrate knowledge of the core business functions to solve intricate, indistinct and unfamiliar management problems.
  • Assess and critique business practices in various countries throughout the world to determine the better practices in these countries and how they can be applied to other countries
