PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

The Master of Science Degree in Environmental Management of Kampala International University is a two year intensive academic programme combining both theoretical and practical methods. Content is delivered to students through lectures, tutorials, projects, documentaries, individual and group presentations.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME

The minimum duration of the Master of Science in Environmental Management shall be two (2) years while the maximum shall be four (4) academic years.


PROGRAMME AIM 

The objective of the programme is to equip students with appropriate knowledge and skills to enable them to:

  1. Advance their higher education in research and development in the environmental fields and interdisciplinary areas to emerge as researchers, experts, and designers;
  2. Upgrade and update their technical knowledge in the respective specialised fields of environmental science.
  3. Attain qualifications to meet the needs of staff development for universities, technical colleges, and the industry.
  4. Produce graduates who have favorable dispositions that will enhance efficiency the management and administration of educational systems

PROGRAMME LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the programme, a learner should be able to apply knowledge of environmental science, to:

  1. Design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, manufacturability, and sustainability;
  2. Plan, operate, manage and maintain environmental systems;
  3. Identify, formulate, and solve environmental problems;
  4. Engage in lifelong learning, which may include doctoral education, for successful adaptation to technological and cultural changes and to foster adept functioning in society;
  5. Exhibit ethical responsibility and professional conduct in environment;
  6. Use techniques, skills, and modern scientific tools, especially computer based tools, for the solution of environmental problems and design;
  7. Prepare lectures and give instructions in institutions of science and engineering.


PROGRAMME TRACKS
The Master of Science in Environmental Management programme provides a choice of elective courses aimed at allowing graduate students to specialize in their respective areas of career interest. Each student must undertake research in their respective area of specialization. The research involves preparation, presentation of seminars series, written Thesis and viva voce.
