GUIDELINES FOR STAFF MEMBERS: PUBLIC HEARING SESSIONS
Dear Staff Members,
Welcome to the Public Hearing sessions for our Master and PhD students.
Here are some important guidelines to ensure smooth and effective sessions:
- Ensure your internet connection is stable.
- Log in to KIU eLearn using your university credentials.
- Click on Public Hearing on the top of the page
- A drop-down list will appear
- Select the appropriate School/College
- On the next page, Click on Join Meeting
- Test your audio and video settings before the session starts.
- Join the session at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time.
- Mute your microphone when not speaking to avoid background noise.
- Use the 'Raise Hand' feature in Zoom if you wish to speak or ask a question.
- Adhere to the time allocated for each presentation and discussion.
GUIDELINES FOR PUBLIC PARTICIPANTS: PUBLIC HEARING SESSIONS

Welcome to the Public Hearing sessions at Kampala International University. Here are some guidelines to ensure a smooth experience:
- You are to navigate to elearn.kiu.ac.ug then click on Public Hearing
- A drop-down list will appear
- Select the appropriate School/College of your presenter
- On the next page, Click on Join Meeting
- Use the chat feature for any questions or comments.
- Be respectful and courteous to all participants.
- Avoid interrupting the presentations.
- Be informed that the session will be recorded for future reference.
GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS: PUBLIC HEARING SESSIONS
Dear Students,
Congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Students will be allowed to make virtual presentations of the following research progress; Topics/Concepts, Seminars, Proposals, Work in Progress and Internal Defence.
Here are some guidelines to help you prepare for your public hearing:
Section A - DHDR Clearance
- Ensure registration on the DHDR portal is completed and approval is secured
- Upload proof of payment on the DHDR portal.
- A student should have 70% attendance (either physical or virtual) before he/she can be allowed to make a presentation
Section B - Accessing KIU eLearn
- Log in to the Moodle platform using your university credentials (KIU email).
- Click on Public Hearing on the top of the page
- A drop-down list will appear
- Select your appropriate School/College
- On the next page, Click on Join Meeting
- Ensure your presentation is ready and evaluated.
- Check your internet connection, audio, and video settings.
- Have a backup plan in case of technical issues (e.g., a second computer with the Zoom app installed).
- Dress professionally as you would for an in-person presentation.
- Join the session at least 15 minutes before your scheduled presentation time.
- Click on the Zoom meeting link to join the session.
- Be informed that the session will be recorded for future reference.
- Mute your microphone when not speaking.
- Be respectful and courteous to all participants.
- Stick to the time allocated for your presentation and Q&A session.
NOTE: Persistence interruption due to internet connectivity, and poor audiovisual shall lead to rescheduling of the hearing for the affected student(s) which attracts a fee (same amount earlier paid before the rescheduling).
Only a maximum of three (3) rescheduling shall be permitted after which only a face-to-face presentation shall be allowed for a student.
